Enrolment

The Geological Hazards and Environmental Sustainability is open access, with no restrictions on enrolment numbers. Admission rules include:

  • be in possession of a secondary school diploma or other qualification obtained abroad, recognized as suitable, which includes a period of school of at least 12 years.
  • knowledge of the English language at a B2 level of the European Framework of Reference (B2 CEFR).

The verification of the enrolment requirements takes place with the self-assessment test, which is mandatory, but not binding for enrolment purposes, to be carried out according to the procedures defined in agreement with the School of reference.

Students who highlight gaps in the entry requirements will be assigned additional training obligations to be fulfilled within the first year.

English language requirements

A certified understanding of the English language at a minimum of the B2 level is an admission requirement. Proof of this proficiency must be provided at the moment of enrolment.

Applicants can demonstrate their English language proficiency in one of the following ways:

1. Recognized Language Certificates

By providing a test score or qualification from one of the following recognized certifying bodies, undertaken no more than 2 years prior to enrolment:

a. British Council IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - Grade equal or higher than 6;
b. Cambridge English Language Assessment B2 First (FCE) - Grade B (173-179) or Grade C (160-172);
c. Educational Testing Service (ETS) TOEFL iBT - Grade 72-94.

2. Linguistic Centre of the University of Florence

By providing a certificate from the Linguistic Centre of the University of Florence (to take in-person classes). Find more information on how apply here (in Italian).

3. Exemption for Native English Speakers

Native English speakers are not required to provide a B2 English certification to enrol in the course. For admission purposes, students from the following countries are officially recognized as native speakers: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, and the USA.
